Writing: My Greatest Love Affair
I have a confession to make—I’m in love. Deeply, irrevocably, and passionately in love… with writing. It’s been my longest relationship, my most trusted friend, and at times, my most stubborn challenge. But no matter how often I get frustrated, distracted, or even doubt my ability, I always find my way back to the page.
Writing is my safe space. It’s where my thoughts have room to breathe, my emotions find clarity, and my dreams come to life. Some people meditate, some go for long walks—I write. When life feels overwhelming, I pour my heart onto the page. When joy overflows, I capture it in words to relive it repeatedly.
But let’s be honest—writing isn’t always easy. There are days when the words flow like a smooth jazz melody, effortless and sweet. Then there are days when the cursor blinks at me like it’s judging my every thought, and I wonder if I’ve lost my magic. I used to let those days discourage me, but I’ve learned something valuable: writing isn’t about perfection, it’s about showing up.
The beauty of writing is that it permits us to be human—messy, emotional, evolving humans. We don’t have to get it right on the first try. That’s what editing is for! We have to be willing to put the words down and tell stories that are uniquely ours.
And if you’ve ever dreamed of writing but held yourself back—stop waiting. You don’t need permission and don’t need to have it all figured out. Just start. Write the messy first draft. Scribble your thoughts in a journal. Tell the story that’s been living inside you. Your words matter. Your voice matters.
So here’s my challenge to you: pick up that pen, open that laptop, and write something today. Anything. Even if no one else sees it, even if it’s just for you—write. Because the world needs more stories, and yours is worth telling.
