Failure Creates Opportunities
Failure shows up just when we think we’ve got everything figured out the way we want it. It barges in, loud, uninvited, and inconvenient. I’ve learned over the years: failure isn’t there to stop you; it’s there to shape you.
When I think about failure, I think about a former client, Denise. She dreamed of starting a small catering business. Cooking was her joy, her therapy, and her ministry. She poured her savings into her first event, and it was a disaster. Orders got mixed up, the food arrived cold, and the guests complained. Denise cried the whole night. Later, she told me, “I thought it was over. Maybe I wasn’t meant to do this.”
But a few days later, she did something remarkable. Instead of quitting, she wrote down everything that went wrong. She analyzed what went wrong, prayed over it, and started again, only smarter this time.
Today, Denise owns a thriving meal prep service with loyal customers who adore her food and story. That “failure” turned out to be her greatest teacher.
I share her story so you remember this: failure doesn’t define you; it refines you. Every mistake, setback, or “I can’t believe that happened” moment carries some wisdom. The key is to look for the lesson instead of the loss.
Here are two questions to help you grow through failure:
1.What did this experience teach me about myself?
2.What can I do differently next time to move closer to success?
Take a deep breath. You’re not behind; you just had a lesson in becoming.
